No it is not. PvE is as much the purpose of the game as PvP (despite the name). Jeff Strain from ArenaNet estmated that 25% of the players were interested in PvP, 25% in PvE, and 50% in both. Online polls indicate that he is right. I'm mostly on the PvE side, doing a bit of PvP for diversity.

The combat mechanics are the same for PvE and PvP.

im level 8 at about 9-10 hrs playing... im just out trying to make friends and level... an MMO is GOING to be boring w/o people to play with =D
